DAILY COGNISANCE:
The Cost of Ungodliness
“The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any of the inhabitants of the world, that foes or enemies could enter the gates of Jerusalem.” (Pauses) “Look around us! We have ignored the warnings, believing we’re invincible…” Lamentations 4:12-16.
Setting: A dimly lit room where a family is gathered, the tension palpable. The mother, a devout believer, stands apart, clutching a Bible.
Characters:
Mother – Wise and loving, deeply concerned about her family.
Son Lost and entangled in the pleasures of life, ignoring the consequences.
Daughter Torn between her faith and the allure of the world.
Scene:
Mother: (reading Lamentations 4:12-16)
“The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any of the inhabitants of the world, that foes or enemies could enter the gates of Jerusalem.” (Pauses) “Look around us! We have ignored the warnings, believing we’re invincible.”
Son: (dismissively) Come on, Mom. It’s just a bit of fun! Everyone’s doing it!
Daughter: (conflicted) “But what about our dignity? Our faith? Sometimes it feels like we’re losing ourselves.”
Mother: (sorrowfully) Exactly! Sin is a thief. It steals our joy, our identity as God’s chosen people. Just like Jerusalem, we are not immune. Lamentations reveals the heart-wrenching consequences of disregarding God. You chase after worldly pleasures, but what will you find? Destruction!”
Son: (defensive) “I can handle it! It’s not like we’re hurting anyone.”
Mother “You’re hurting yourselves! Every indulgence drags you further from the grace of God. Remember who you are! You were bought with a price, woven into the fabric of His love. Do not toil with sin; it will lead you to shame and ruin.”
Daughter: (teary-eyed) “Mom, I don’t want to be lost. I want to reclaim our legacy!”
Mother: “Then let’s fight for it! Let’s repent and return to God. He is waiting, arms open wide.”
(The family joins hands, trembling but determined, ready to turn their hearts back to the Lord.)
Conclusion Narrator (Voiceover): Are you also ready to return back to the Lord your God?
