DAILY COGNISANCE:
Building Your House on the Rock – Matthew 7:24-25 (NIV)
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Drama Message:
Setting: A cozy living room with a large window showing a stormy scene outside—wind and rain lashing against the glass.
Inside, the room is warm and welcoming, filled with books, cushions, and a small table with snacks.
Characters:
1.Daniel: A young man in his mid-20s who is reassessing his life choices after some setbacks.
2.Laura: Daniel’s wise and supportive friend, who is grounded in her faith.
[Scene 1: DANIEL is sitting on the floor, looking at a stack of papers and books. LAURA enters with two cups of tea.]
Laura: (placing a cup next to him) Hey, Daniel! I brought you some tea. What’s got you looking so pensive?
Daniel: (sighs) Thanks, Laura. I’ve just been thinking about my life lately. I feel like I’ve built everything on shaky ground. I lost my job and some relationships have deteriorated. It’s like I’m in a storm, and I’m not sure how to weather it.
Scene 2: LAURA sits down beside him, showing empathy.]
Laura: (nodding) I understand. Life can throw us curveballs, especially when we least expect it. But this is a good moment to reassess your foundation.
Daniel: (curious) What do you mean by “foundation”?
[Scene 3: LAURA leans forward, pulling out her phone and reading from Matthew 7:24-25.]
Laura: Jesus talks about building our lives on solid ground in Matthew. He says that when we hear His words and put them into practice, it’s like building a house on rock. When storms come—like what you’re feeling now—your house stands strong.
Daniel: (thoughtfully) So, if I want to stand strong, I need to build on something solid?
Scene 4: LAURA stands up and gestures to the window, where the storm rages outside.]
Laura: Exactly! It’s easy to build on the things that seem good in the moment—like popularity, job success, or even relationships. But those can crumble. Building your life on spiritual principles—on trust, love, faith, and wisdom—can help you weather any storm.
[Scene 5: DANIEL looks inspired, getting up from the floor.]
Daniel: (determined) I want to build my life on something solid! I want to know that when the rains come, I can stand firm.
Laura: (smiling) Great! It’s about creating habits that reflect that foundation—daily prayer, reading scripture, and surrounding yourself with supportive people.
[Scene 6: The storm outside begins to fade as DANIEL starts to clean up his papers.]
Daniel: (enthusiastic) I’ve started reading the Bible again. I think I’ll focus on applying what I learn, rather than just reading for knowledge.
Laura: (encouragingly) That’s a fantastic start! And remember, it’s okay to take small steps. Just like building a house—it’s constructed piece by piece.
[Scene 7: A pause as the sound of soft rain replaces the storm. The atmosphere becomes calm.]
Daniel: (smiling) I feel like I can breathe now. With this new focus, I really believe I can navigate this storm.
Laura: (beaming) I believe it too! You’re not alone in this; God is with you. Lean into Him, and your house will stand firm.
[Scene 8: They sit back down together, sipping tea as the storm begins to clear.]
Narrator: (voiceover) Just as Daniel discovered, building your house on the rock—a foundation of faith and wisdom—gives you strength in the midst of life’s storms. Trust in the solid foundation, and you will stand strong.
