Building Up the Weak – Romans 15:1

Drama Message:

[Scene: A high school gym after school hours. A group of students is practicing basketball. Among them is Chris, a talented player, who is noticeably frustrated as he watches his friend James struggle to keep up. James is trying to learn the basics of dribbling but repeatedly fumbles the ball.]

Chris: (exasperated) Come on, James! You’ve got to focus! Just keep your eyes on the ball!

[James looks defeated and sighs as he misses yet another dribble. The other students laugh lightly, and Chris rolls his eyes.]

James: (quietly) I’m trying, Chris. I just can’t get the hang of it.

[As the laughter fades, Sarah, another student who had been shooting hoops alone, notices the tension and walks over.]

Sarah: (gently) Hey, Chris, maybe you could help James instead of pushing him?

Chris: (defensively) I want to, but if he can’t play, he doesn’t belong on the court with us.

Sarah: (smiling softly) That’s not what Romans 15:1 says. “We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.”

[Chris looks surprised and starts to reconsider. He glances at James, who is looking downcast.]

Chris: (sighs) I guess I haven’t been very patient.

Sarah: (nods) Everyone starts somewhere, including you! Imagine how much it would mean for James if you could lift him up.

[Taking a deep breath, Chris approaches James with a kinder attitude.]

Chris: (softening) Hey, James. Want me to show you some techniques that helped me when I was starting out?

James: (brightening) Really? That would be awesome!

[Chris takes the time to patiently guide James through basic dribbling exercises, encouraging him step by step. Gradually, James gains confidence and starts to improve. The other students, initially skeptical, begin to join in and cheer for James.]

[A scene shift shows James successfully dribbling and even attempting a shot, where he scores his first basket. Everyone cheers, including Chris.]

James: (grinning) I did it! Thanks, Chris!

Chris: (smiling) You worked hard for it, man!

[As practice comes to an end, Sarah smiles, watching Chris and James bond over the game.]

[Voiceover:] “In a world that often focuses on competition, let’s remember the power of lifting others up. When we bear with one another, we embody the true spirit of community.”

[The scene fades to text on the screen:

“Building up the weak enriches us all.
Let’s rise together!”
