DAILY COGNISANCE:
The Call of the Mighty Warrior: Gideon of our time Judges 6:12.
Story of Gideon – A man hiding in fear who is called by God to be a courageous leader.
Drama Message:
Setting: The dusty grounds behind a small community church. PASTOR DAVID is speaking with SAMUEL, a young man who is a gifted youth leader but has refused a nomination to become the new church project manager for a vital community borehole project.
(The scene opens with Samuel shaking his head, avoiding Pastor David’s gaze.)
Samuel: Pastor, with all due respect, I am the wrong man for this. I can’t lead this project. The community elders are difficult. The local ‘area boys’ will demand money. What if I can’t raise the funds? The church will be disappointed. I will be a failure.
Pastor David: (Smiling knowingly) So you would rather remain here, in the shadows, where it is safe? Where no one can criticize you?
Samuel: I am not hiding, Pastor. I am being realistic. I know my limits. I am not a big man. I don’t have the connections or the confidence.
Pastor David: Let me tell you about another man who knew his limits. His name was Gideon. His people were oppressed, and he was so afraid that he was threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding from his enemies. He felt he was from the weakest clan and the least in his family. Sound familiar?
Samuel: (Looks up, intrigued) Gideon… from the book of Judges.
Pastor David: The very one. And while he was hiding, convinced of his own weakness, an angel of the Lord appeared and what did he call him? Not “Oh you, coward.” He said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
Samuel: (A small, ironic smile touches his lips) I am no mighty warrior, Pastor.
Pastor David: Not in your own eyes, perhaps. But God sees not what we are, but what we can become through Him. Gideon was full of fear and excuses, just like you. But he made a choice. He chose to obey God’s word to him, step-by-step, despite his fear. He tore down the idols of fear and tradition in his community and trusted God. And through that frightened man, God saved a nation.
(Pastor David places a comforting hand on Samuel’s shoulder.)
Pastor David: This borehole project is not just about water, Samuel. It is your winepress. You can choose to stay in it, threshing your small portion in fear. Or you can answer the call of God, who sees a mighty warrior in you. He has not given you a spirit of fear to camp with the ‘what ifs’. He has given you His spirit, His presence, which is all the power you need. The question is, will you neglect His call or will you obey His word?
(Samuel is quiet for a long moment, the pastor’s words sinking in. He looks towards the main road, where children are carrying buckets, a daily reminder of the need.)
Samuel: (Straightens his shoulders, his voice low but firm) Where do we start? Who do I need to speak with first about the project?
(Pastor David’s smile widens. He claps Samuel on the back, a sense of hope and purpose now radiating from the once-fearful young man.)
Pastor David: That’s the mighty warrior I was talking about. Let’s go and get to work.
Conclusion:
Narator: (Voice Over) The overwhelming fear that becloud Gideon as analysed in the above scriptures is still holding down many today in bondage of incapabilities. Are you a victim? Let that ‘fear’ spark the Fire of God to revive and restore you to your present potencial and status in the hand of the Lord God your creator.
