DAILY COGNISANCE:

The Dangers of Pride – Proverbs 16:18

[Scene: A bustling office environment during the morning rush. Employees are at their desks, typing away. The camera focuses on David, a confident and ambitious employee, who is boasting to his coworkers about his recent promotion.]

David: (bragging) I can’t believe I got the promotion! I totally deserve it. I’ve worked harder than anyone else here.

[His colleague, Lisa, overhears him while organizing some files at her desk. She shakes her head, feeling uneasy about David’s attitude. She approaches him during a break.]

Lisa: (gently) Hey, David, congratulations on the promotion!

David: (smirking) Thanks! It’s about time my efforts were recognized.

Lisa: (hesitant) Just remember, Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

[David laughs dismissively, rolling his eyes.]

David: (confidently) That’s just a saying, Lisa. I mean, isn’t confidence key in the workplace?

Lisa: (calmly) Of course, but there’s a difference between confidence and pride. When we let pride take over, we can lose sight of our values and relationships.

[Scene shifts to a few days later. David is in a meeting, and he starts to speak over others, dismissing their ideas and insisting that his way is the best.]

David: (interrupting) Listen, my approach is proven; we don’t need to waste time on other suggestions.

[The room falls silent, and colleagues exchange uncomfortable glances. After the meeting, one of David’s coworkers, Mark, approaches him.]

Mark: (seriously) Hey, David, I think you need to consider what everyone is saying. Collaboration is key to our success.

David: (scoffing) I know what I’m doing, Mark. You should try trusting my judgment for once.

[As the days pass, David continues to work in a prideful manner, ignoring his team and their input. The team’s morale begins to drop, and productivity takes a hit.]

[Scene transitions to a pivotal moment: David receives feedback during his performance review. His boss, Sarah, addresses the team’s concerns.]

Sarah: (seriously) David, while your work is commendable, your attitude has led to a lack of team cohesion. We need someone who can collaborate and uplift others, not just push through alone.

[David looks shocked, realizing the consequences of his pride. As he walks out of the meeting room, he sees Lisa sitting alone in the break room. He approaches her, looking reflective.]

David: (sincerely) You were right about pride. I didn’t see how it was affecting others, but now I understand.

Lisa: (kindly) It’s never too late to change, David. Humility is a strength, and it can bring the team back together.

[David nods, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. He sits down with Lisa to discuss how he can rebuild the trust with his team.]

[Voiceover as the scene shifts to David actively engaging with his coworkers, asking for their ideas, and making a concerted effort to include them in decisions.]

Voiceover: “The journey from pride to humility transforms not only ourselves but the relationships that surround us.”

[Ending scene shows the once-divided team now celebrating their collective successes together at a work party. David stands smiling, realizing the power of teamwork.]

[Text appears on the screen:] “Beware the danger of pride; embrace humility and build up those around you.”
